ECO4

What is ECO 4?

The main scheme being implemented by the government is called ECO4. Larger energy suppliers are legally required to provide household properties with energy efficiency measures under the Energy Company Obligation (ECO). It’s a component of a system of incentives that the government offers in an effort to be more environmentally friendly by reducing the UK’s carbon footprint by 2050.

You may have heard the phrase “Affordable Warmth” used. The segment of the population with the greatest need is the focus of Affordable Warmth. Low-income, vulnerable, and fuel-poor households are included in this. With ECO4, the government has established the requirements for eligibility, making almost 6.6 million households eligible for the scheme. Additionally, it will permit up to 25% of the requirement to be fulfilled by actions carried out in accordance with Local Authority Flexible Eligibility.

In a nutshell, ECO4 is a scheme developed by the UK government to lessen our overall carbon footprint by increasing the affordability and efficiency of home heating. It focuses on replacing outdated, inefficient boilers with new, energy-efficient models as well as updating the insulation in cavity walls, under floors, and “room-in-roofs.” By utilising fewer resources (gas and electricity) to heat your home, all of these factors combine to make heating your home more affordable.

Difference between LA Flex & ECO4

Because LA Flex is an addition to the ECO4 scheme, the two schemes are closely related. It’s essentially more money given to Local Authorities to identify people who don’t fall under the main ECO4 eligibility criteria but nonetheless rely heavily on the free funding schemes. It basically follows the same plan but uses a different application procedure (for us, because we do all of the leg work for you).

Although the restrictions are a little looser, the end result is the same for you: a free boiler replacement, new cavity wall insulation, and underfloor heating. Various Local Authorities have various LA Flex guidelines and restrictions. However ECOFIT UK, can handle this on your behalf stress and hassle free.

Eligibility criteria for EC04

ECO4 requires that the applicant own their home; if you are currently renting, you are regrettably ineligible under this scheme. Additionally, they mandate that your boiler be at least 7 years old. With continued usage, boilers lose efficiency over time; therefore, even if your boiler is 10 years old and still has a “B” rating sticker, it probably isn’t that efficient anymore.

Almost all boilers reach the point of 7 years where it is prudent to replace them due to wear and tear. Where the criteria change after this is.
